Exit Lights
Emergency lights are used to light the way to the escape routes, in case of a fire or other emergency. They are designed to illuminate in the event of a loss of power for either 1 or 3 hours (depending on type installed). Emergency lights guidance can be found in British Standard BS5266-1:2016.
Annual Maintenance
Emergency lights should have a discharge test carried out by a competent person at a minimum of once per year. This involves turning the main lights off at the breaker, then allowing the lights to drain down fully and then recharge. This also ensures the battery gets a workout and doesn't degrade.
Monthly Maintenance
The Responsible Person (as defined by the RRO 2005, either the Employer, Landlord or other management responsible for the building) should carry out a flick test at a minimum monthly, preferably weekly. This ensures that the lights are kept in full working order and any failures can be discovered before the next test (and repaired prior to an emergency event).
Emergency Lights Maintenance
Our engineers will carry out the required emergency light discharge testing. Any emergency lights that fail testing are recorded and, if authorised via a contract spend limit, repairs are carried out immediately from van stock. If the necessary repairs are above the spend limit, a quotation will be produced for your review.
We recommend carrying emergency light discharge testing out twice per year (a 1hr and a 3hr discharge) in order to ensure that the lights are functioning in the event of an emergency.
